Police arrest two suspected ‘one-chance’ robbers in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of belonging to a "one-chance" robbery syndicate operating within the Abeokuta metropolis. The arrests were made on August 15 following an intelligence-led operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The suspects, identified as Bidemi Tijani, 29, and Olajide Rasaq, 42, were reportedly intercepted in a taxi heading towards Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta. Operatives from the VCRU pursued the vehicle after receiving a tip-off about the syndicate members disguised as commercial taxi operators.

Acting promptly on the tip-off, tactical operatives of the VCRU gave the fleeing robbers a hot chase towards Ita-Oshin, successfully intercepting the vehicle and apprehending the two suspects.

During interrogation, both suspects confessed to being active members of the "one-chance" robbery syndicate, which targets commuters in the Abeokuta area. They admitted to terrorizing passengers by posing as legitimate taxi drivers.

The police command stated that efforts are underway to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate who managed to escape. They also aim to determine the full extent of the syndicate's criminal activities and recover any exhibits related to their operations. The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU operatives for their swift and professional response and reiterated the command's commitment to combating crime in the state.
