Police arrest woman over 97-year-old grandmother’s death in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Muktar Hassan, in connection with the death of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan. The tragic incident reportedly stemmed from a domestic dispute and an altercation that took place on June 12, 2026, around 7:00 pm in the Daura Local Government Area of the state. According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the matter was reported to the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station by the suspect's father, Muktar Muhammad Hassan, aged 39. The report detailed that the daughter, Aisha Muktar Hassan, had a misunderstanding with her grandmother. During the ensuing argument, the suspect allegedly struck the elderly victim on the head with a wooden chair. Responding swiftly to the report, police operatives arrived at the scene to find the victim unconscious and in a pool of blood. She was immediately transported to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention. A doctor on duty later confirmed her death while she was receiving treatment. During the investigation, the suspect, Aisha Muktar Hassan, was arrested. She has reportedly confessed to the offense and is currently in police custody. Charges will be filed in court upon the conclusion of the investigation. Further developments are expected to be communicated in due course.
