Police bust baby factory in Ogun, rescue pregnant women, children

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully dismantled an alleged baby factory in Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children. The operation, which occurred on Monday, August 24, 2026, also led to the arrest of six individuals suspected of involvement in human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.

The rescued women were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who is seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who is eight months pregnant. The four children rescued included two boys and two girls. The arrested suspects are Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

The whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse in locating the infant.

Further investigation led police to a hospital where another alleged victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20. However, the newborn's whereabouts could not be determined, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse to aid in locating the infant. The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more thorough investigation into the syndicate's operations and the recovery of the missing child.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved and reiterated the command's dedication to fighting human trafficking and child trading. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to support the police in ensuring the safety and protection of all citizens. This incident follows a previous bust of a baby factory in Lagos State in April, where 18 pregnant women and 10 children were rescued.
