Police catch underage burglars and vandals in Tallinn

Estonian police have detained a 16-year-old boy and identified a 13-year-old in connection with a series of break-ins and acts of vandalism in Tallinn.

Police said the youths had been active since the end of August, mainly in the Northern Tallinn and city-center districts. They allegedly broke into several shops and food-service businesses, damaged property and stole money and valuable items.

According to the information collected so far, the youths mainly broke into shops and restaurants, smashing their doors and windows.

Lea Bärenson, head of the Lääne-Harju police station, said the teenagers usually targeted shops and restaurants. They broke doors and windows and took anything that could easily be carried away, including cash and small electronic devices. Electric scooters were also among the stolen items.

The youths are additionally suspected of smashing the windows of several vehicles in Northern Tallinn, police said.
