Police Consulted for Filming: Actress Excited to Handle Guns in New Series

Croatian television audiences can anticipate a new crime drama this fall with the premiere of "Specijalisti Zagreb" on RTL, starting September 7. The series is set in the capital city and centers on a team of four police inspectors tackling intricate cases, ranging from corruption to underworld conflicts, while their personal lives unfold in parallel.

We consulted with police officers for the needs of filming, I was excited to handle guns.

Zagreb-based actress Vini Jurčić takes on the role of Ana Kirin, the deputy chief inspector and the only female member of the core team. Jurčić, whose career spans the Zagreb Youth Theatre, various hosting gigs, and film and television roles, describes this as her most significant television role to date. She expressed excitement about the opportunity to handle firearms and engage in fast-paced action within the series.

Jurčić detailed her preparation for the role, which included rehearsals with directors Filip Heraković and Filip Mojzeš. The team delved into character backstories and relationships, and consulted with actual police officers to understand hierarchy, field procedures, and the proper handling of props like handcuffs. They also underwent firearms training at a shooting range, noting differences in how pistols are held by older versus contemporary inspectors.

While Jurčić sees similarities with her character in terms of persistence and observation, she notes differences in emotional transparency. Ana Kirin maintains a "poker face" due to her profession, a trait Jurčić finds intriguing to portray. She also mentioned the adjustment to depicting crime scenes and carrying a weapon. Jurčić affirmed a positive working relationship with her male colleagues on set, highlighting the collaborative atmosphere and the frequent appearance of guest actors.
