Police Criticized for Delayed Response to Blood-Covered Murder Suspect in South Korea

Authorities in Gyeongsan, South Korea, are under scrutiny following allegations of a delayed response to a murder suspect who was found naked and covered in blood on a public street. The incident has sparked outrage among the victim's family, who claim police failed to act swiftly.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, allegedly stabbed his friend to death during a drinking session at his apartment on July 4. Following the fatal attack, he left the premises unclothed and covered in blood, eventually entering a convenience store where he consumed milk before continuing to roam the streets. A store employee alerted the police upon noticing the blood-covered man.

CCTV footage shows the suspect encountering a police patrol car. Instead of immediate apprehension, the suspect briefly paused before running in the opposite direction. Police initially attempted to exit the vehicle but then pursued him. The victim's family, through their legal representative, questioned why officers did not immediately subdue the suspect when they were only about 2 meters apart.

Police stated they were unaware of a murder at the time, as they were following blood trails as part of a separate search. They only learned of the homicide after receiving a report of a deceased person found in the apartment building later that morning. The suspect was later apprehended at his home by friends who had visited the apartment, where they found the deceased victim and subsequently detained the suspect until police arrived. His personal information is scheduled to be released on July 16.
