Police destroy criminal camp in Abia forest

The Abia State Police Command has successfully dismantled a suspected criminal hideout located within Unuobasi Forest in the Umunneochi Local Government Area. This operation, carried out on Sunday, June 28, 2026, by operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit in conjunction with local security outfits, marks a significant step in the state's ongoing efforts to combat crime.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, the raid was executed following actionable intelligence. The destruction of the camp has effectively disrupted criminal activities that were reportedly taking place in the area. The police have assured the public that continuous monitoring of the forest and surrounding areas is underway to prevent any resurgence of criminal operations.

Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit of the Command, in collaboration with the local security outfit in Umuobasi, carried out the operation on Sunday, 28/06/2026, leading to the destruction of the criminal camp and the disruption of criminal activities in the area. Monitoring of the area is still ongoing.

Commissioner Danladi Isa reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to its constitutional duty of preventing crime and apprehending offenders. He emphasized that criminals will find no safe haven within Abia State. The police are determined to proactively take the fight to criminal enclaves, ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

The command also appealed to the public to act as partners in crime prevention by promptly reporting any security concerns, suspicious individuals, or unusual activities to the nearest police station.
