Police detain officers over assault of civilian in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has initiated an investigation into an alleged assault on a civilian by officers attached to the Ohaukwu Police Division. The incident gained public attention after images of the victim circulated on social media.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, directed the detention and transfer of the identified officers to the state command headquarters. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with conducting a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, stated that the involved officers would face appropriate disciplinary actions based on the investigation's outcome. The command expressed sympathy to the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, and wished him a speedy recovery.

The Ebonyi State Police Command assured the public that the investigation would be transparent and adhere to due process. It reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of citizens' fundamental rights, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards police brutality and misconduct.
