Police Dismantle Vehicle Document Forgery Ring in Guayaquil, Arrest 10

Ecuadorian police have cracked down on a sophisticated vehicle document forgery operation in Guayaquil, arresting 10 individuals. The bust, part of broader citizen security efforts announced by Interior Minister John Reimberg, targeted a clandestine center producing fake documents.

During the raid in the 9 de Octubre district, officers apprehended 10 Ecuadorian citizens. Among those detained was Ángel Daniel Herrería Taurí, who has prior criminal records for robbery in 2025. The seized items included approximately 5,000 technical review certificates from various decentralized autonomous governments (GADs) across Ecuador, such as Bucay, San Vicente, Naranjal, Rumiñahui, Junín, and Balzar.

Authorities also confiscated nearly 2,000 technical review stickers, 58 lithographic plates used for mass printing, six metal clichés for official stamps, three rolls of holographic material, and six cell phones used to coordinate illegal activities. Preliminary investigations suggest the network specialized in altering vehicle registration and technical review documents for different Ecuadorian GADs. The recovery of this machinery and materials is expected to halt the widespread distribution of fraudulent permits nationwide.
