Police dismiss threat claims in Ondo, say schools remain secure

Ondo State Police Command has declared the state safe and secure, dismissing reports of a security breach or threat in the Odigbo Local Government Area.

The Ondo State Police Command wishes to reassure residents of Odigbo Local Government Area and the general public that there has been no recorded breach of security, terrorist threat or any incident capable of causing panic within the local government.

The command reacted to a report suggesting schools were ordered closed in Odigbo by the council chairman due to a security threat. However, the chairman denied issuing such an order, and the police confirmed no such threat exists.

The command further states that, based on available intelligence and ongoing security assessments, there is no credible information suggesting any imminent threat to public safety in Odigbo or its surrounding communities.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, assured residents that there has been no recorded breach of security, terrorist threat, or any incident causing panic in Odigbo or surrounding communities. The command stated that available intelligence and ongoing security assessments show no credible information indicating an imminent threat to public safety.

The security architecture within Odigbo Local Government Area and across the state remains robust and effective, while security agencies continue to monitor developments and respond proactively to any emerging concerns.

Despite allaying fears, the Commissioner of Police has directed all area commanders, divisional police officers, and tactical units to maintain heightened surveillance, intelligence gathering, and visible policing across the state. Special attention is being given to schools, public facilities, and other vulnerable locations. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information, as security is a collective responsibility.
