Police Foil Border Kidnap Plot, Arrest Two Suspects in Jigawa

Police in Jigawa State have successfully foiled a kidnapping plot along the Jigawa-Bauchi border, apprehending two suspects before any harm could befall the intended victims. The operation preempted an alleged kidnapping of two individuals from Jama’are town.

According to a statement released on Sunday by SP Shi’isu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Police Command, the criminal conspiracy was uncovered on May 23, 2026. The arrested suspects have been identified as Adamu Gari, 55, from Zabo Kafi Village in Kafin Hausa LGA, and Abdullahi Adamu, 40, from Fatiske Village in Jama’are LGA, Bauchi State. Preliminary investigations indicate the duo, along with other syndicate members, were involved in the plot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo and other syndicate members allegedly kidnapped two individuals from Jama’are town.

Both men were arrested in their respective hometowns prior to the execution of the kidnapping. SP Adam confirmed that the suspects are cooperating with the police, providing useful information as investigations continue. The command anticipates further arrests as efforts are underway to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.

This successful intervention is part of a series of operations conducted by the Jigawa State Police Command last week, which also resulted in arrests for armed robbery, theft, and cattle rustling. Notable among these was the arrest of three suspects linked to armed robbery in Hadejia Emirate, with a fabricated AK-47 rifle recovered from one suspect's premises. Additionally, two suspected thieves were apprehended with stolen sheep and a motorcycle used in their operations, while two suspected cattle rustlers were caught with four stolen sheep. The police have confirmed that suspects in some of these cases have been charged to court.
