Police foil cattle-rustling attempt and recover eight cows in Bauchi

A vigilant resident helped police recover eight cows before suspected cattle rustlers could take them away in Bauchi State’s Darazo Local Government Area.

Police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib said the command received a tip-off at about 2:58 a.m. that suspects were loading cattle into a Chevrolet saloon car with registration number DAS 452 NE. Two cows had already been forced into the vehicle, while six others were being held nearby.

Operatives from the Darazo Division mobilised immediately. The suspects fled into the darkness after seeing the police team, leaving the vehicle and cattle behind. Officers found the two cows inside the car and the remaining six tethered at the scene.

At about 0258hrs, the Command received a timely tip-off from a vigilant citizen, who reported that a group of suspected cattle rustlers were sighted loading cows into a Chevrolet Saloon car with Registration Number DAS 452 NE.

Police secured the vehicle and cattle as exhibits while working to identify the owner. The animals were later released to their rightful owner on bond. Authorities have begun searching for the suspects.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu praised the resident who reported the suspicious activity and urged the public to promptly alert security agencies about unusual movements. He said the command remained committed to protecting people, property and livestock across the state.
