Police foil criminal networks, recover N78m solar equipment in Kaduna raids

Kaduna State Police Command has significantly disrupted criminal activities, arresting 25 suspects and recovering stolen solar equipment valued at approximately N78 million in coordinated raids over the past two weeks. The operations also yielded 10 firearms, 170 counterfeit US dollar notes, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen mobile phones, two plasma televisions, a stolen Toyota Sienna, and over 400 rustled cattle.

Within the two weeks under review, the Kaduna State Police Command neutralised notorious kidnappers, arrested 16 suspected kidnappers, six suspects found in possession of 170 pieces of counterfeit dollar notes, three suspected gunrunners, recovered 10 firearms of different calibres, 190 solar inverters worth N69m, one stolen vehicle, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen phones, two plasma televisions and 410 cattle during various operations.

Police Commissioner Rabiu Muhammad highlighted the command's commitment to dismantling criminal networks threatening the state. Among the successes was the arrest of Aisha Barau, 20, for allegedly attempting to exchange counterfeit US dollars. Her confession led to the apprehension of syndicate members Abdullahi Muhammad and Danbala Jibrin, who reportedly supplied the fake currency.

Further investigation led to the arrest of several other members of the syndicate. They will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Further operations by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit led to the arrest of three suspected gunrunners in Jos, Plateau State, who allegedly supplied arms to northern bandits. The police also apprehended a suspected kidnap kingpin, Abdullahi Mohammed, known as “Aala,” in Kargi Village, Ikara Local Government Area. Mohammed allegedly confessed to masterminding numerous kidnappings and participating in the killing of two local vigilantes. An AK-47 rifle and ammunition were recovered from him.

The suspect allegedly confessed to masterminding several kidnapping operations in Kuzuntu Village and other parts of Kano State, as well as participating in the killing of two Yan Sa Kai members during an attack last year.
