Police hunt pair over 'senseless' machete attack on teenager

Police are seeking two unidentified males following a "senseless" machete attack on a teenager in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. The incident, which occurred on June 20, left the 17-year-old victim with significant injuries and resulted in the theft of his valuable e-bike and mobile phone.

The attack took place at JW Manson Reserve in Wantirna around 6:15 p.m. According to Victoria Police, the two offenders approached the teenager without warning, pushing him off his bike. As the boy attempted to flee, he was struck with a machete, sustaining a deep wound to his shoulder.

This unprovoked and senseless attack on the victim is extremely concerning and completely unacceptable.

He managed to escape and reach a nearby street, where a passer-by called emergency services. The teenager, who has since turned 18, was hospitalized for four days to recover from multiple machete wounds. The stolen items, an e-bike and a mobile phone, are valued at approximately $10,000.

Detective Acting Inspector Troy Andrews described the unprovoked assault as "extremely concerning and completely unacceptable." He assured the local community that police are actively patrolling and working diligently to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible. Police have released CCTV images of the alleged attackers and a picture of the stolen Surron Ultra Bee HP e-bike, urging anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers.
