Police Investigate Busan Hotel for 'Cancel-and-Resell' Price Gouging Ahead of BTS Concert

Busan police are investigating a local accommodation provider on suspicion of fraud, specifically for alleged price gouging and fraudulent cancellations in anticipation of the BTS World Tour concert in the city. The investigation by the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's anti-corruption and economic crime unit began after the accommodation provider faced backlash for its practices.

Reports indicate that the establishment unilaterally canceled existing reservations made by guests, some of whom had booked rooms for as little as 100,000 won. Shortly after canceling these bookings, the rooms were relisted at significantly inflated prices, reportedly as high as 1.5 million won.

The controversy gained traction when a BTS fan shared their experience on social media, detailing how their pre-booked room was canceled and then relisted at a much higher price. This post highlighted the alleged scheme to exploit the surge in demand for accommodation during the highly anticipated concert.

A spokesperson for the Busan police stated that a thorough investigation is underway. "We will take strict action if criminal charges are proven," the spokesperson said, adding that authorities intend to broaden the scope of the investigation to uncover any similar fraudulent practices targeting other victims.
