Police investigate suspicious death of Bolt driver in Calabar

Authorities in Calabar are investigating the death of Emmanuel Effiong Ita, a 29-year-old Bolt driver, whose body was found inside his Honda City vehicle on Friday along the Target–Udy King axis. The Cross River State Police Command has launched a probe into the circumstances, which they have described as suspicious.

Ita, a resident of Ikot Effanga Mkpa in Calabar, was discovered deceased in his car. According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, the command received information about the incident and dispatched personnel to the scene. However, the deceased's family had already transported his remains to the general hospital mortuary.

The Command has commenced a preliminary investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. His vehicle has been recovered, while relevant evidence is being preserved for further forensic and investigative examination.

A preliminary examination conducted at the mortuary revealed an injury on Ita's chest. The police have secured the vehicle and are meticulously preserving evidence for further forensic and investigative analysis. The case is slated to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a "discreet and comprehensive investigation" to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances surrounding Ita's death.

Eitokpah urged the public to refrain from speculating or circulating unverified information while the investigation is ongoing. He assured that the command is committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring that any individual found responsible for Ita's death is brought to justice.
