Police kill two criminals during attempted carjacking in Cerrillos

Carabineros thwarted an attempted carjacking in Cerrillos, resulting in the deaths of two assailants. The incident occurred at a service station where a person and a minor were refueling their vehicle. Three individuals, arriving in a gray Mazda, approached the victims with blunt objects and knives, attempting to steal the car.

Responding to the unfolding crime, Carabineros officers on preventive patrol intervened. The officers discharged their service weapons to stop the assault, fatally wounding two of the suspects. The third assailant managed to escape in the getaway vehicle.

Lieutenant Colonel Cristián Bichet of the Santiago Rinconada Prefecture stated that the police officers acted upon witnessing the crime in progress. He confirmed that the officers used their firearms to provide assistance to the victim, leading to the deaths of the two individuals. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities seeking the third suspect.
