Police Launch Manhunt as Gunmen Abduct Adelabu's Sister, Nephews in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command is investigating the abduction of Mrs Busayo John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul. The family was targeted around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday while en route to school in Ibadan.

Following the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Challenge Division, alongside other tactical teams, to proceed to the scene where the victim’s vehicle was recovered and commence intensive investigations.

Mrs John-Paul, 43, and her 12-year-old sons were reportedly taken by gunmen. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident, stating that the Commissioner of Police has directed immediate deployment of tactical teams to the scene. The victim's vehicle was recovered, and intensive investigations are underway.

"The command wishes to assure members of the public that all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this criminal act," Osifeso said. Femi Awogboro, a media aide to Adebayo Adelabu, also confirmed the kidnapping, describing it as a distressing development. He expressed confidence in the security agencies' ability to secure the safe release of Mrs John-Paul and her children. The family urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could hinder rescue efforts.

The party called for a review of the state's security architecture, noting that this abduction follows other recent kidnappings, including those of teachers, students, and staff members from research institutes.
