Police launch manhunt as gunmen kidnap three Nasarawa varsity students

The Nasarawa State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for individuals responsible for the abduction of three students from the Federal University of Lafia. The students were reportedly taken from their lodge located off-campus in the Bukan Kwato area.

The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Sure Leaders Lodge. The state's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed that efforts are underway to rescue the victims unharmed and apprehend the kidnappers. While no arrests have been made yet, Nansel indicated that underground operations are in progress, expressing optimism for a swift resolution.

So far, no arrest has been made, but efforts are ongoing to ensure their safe release. Though there are underground works that have been done on the pipeline, we expect to get them released soon.

A student from the university, who requested anonymity, corroborated the details of the abduction, noting that all three victims are first-year students. The student expressed growing concern over the prevalence of kidnappings in the area and appealed to the government for increased security presence around the university to ensure the safety of students.

This kidnapping adds to a series of security incidents affecting students in the region, raising anxieties among students and parents regarding safety in off-campus hostels. Officials from the Federal University of Lafia's Information Unit stated they were unaware of the reported kidnapping but acknowledged knowledge of an attack on a female student. As of the time of reporting, the university management had not issued an official statement.
