Police Officer Injured Chasing Dog Theft Suspects Receives Special Allowance

A police officer in Can Tho City, Vietnam, has been awarded a special allowance from the Ministry of Public Security for injuries sustained while bravely pursuing a dog theft gang. The officer, identified as Lieutenant Tran Ngoc Loi, a member of the An Thinh Commune Police, was injured during the chase.

The allowance, amounting to 20 million Vietnamese Dong, was presented by Major General Nguyen Van Thang, Deputy Director of the Can Tho City Police. During the presentation, Major General Thang inquired about Lieutenant Loi's health and recovery process, encouraging him to rest well and follow medical advice to return to duty soon.

The incident occurred in the early hours of August 8th when a patrol team from An Thinh Commune Police spotted four individuals on two motorcycles carrying a suspicious sack, indicating potential dog theft. When signaled to stop, the suspects refused, instead throwing the sack and attacking the officers with improvised weapons, including a "dog-shooting gun," which struck Lieutenant Loi in the chest.

Despite the attack, the suspects fled the scene. Lieutenant Loi suffered severe injuries, including a collapsed lung, and required emergency surgery at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Meanwhile, the police have since arrested the four suspects involved in the dog theft and assault, and investigations are ongoing to bring them to justice.
