Police officer killed by colleague in Venustiano Carranza; shot discharged while removing jacket

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a police officer in Mexico City, who was fatally shot by a colleague. The incident occurred as uniformed officers were heading to their assignments in the Venustiano Carranza borough.

According to a statement from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the weapon of one officer discharged accidentally while he was in the process of removing his jacket. This unintended discharge resulted in a fatal injury to his fellow officer.

The injured officer, identified as third-class police officer Ramón “N,” was transported to the Balbuena General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officer involved in the shooting, Rubén “N,” has been presented to the Public Ministry to determine his responsibility in the case.

The SSC has stated that its Internal Affairs General Directorate is investigating the incident. The victim's family has been informed and will receive full legal and psychological support.
