Police order suspension of rallies in Osun LG to avert violence

The Osun State Police Command has issued a directive for the immediate suspension of all political rallies planned in the Oriade Local Government Area. This decision aims to preempt potential outbreaks of violence and maintain public order.

The command wishes to advise all political parties, candidates, supporters and stakeholders to postpone their planned political gatherings, rallies, campaigns and processions scheduled to hold on Wednesday in Oriade Local Government Area to a new date.

State police public relations officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, advised political parties, candidates, supporters, and stakeholders to postpone their scheduled gatherings, campaigns, and processions. The directive stems from credible intelligence and prevailing security concerns within the local government area, underscoring the police's commitment to proactive security measures.

Ojelabi further noted that the directive was influenced by the non-cooperative attitude of some political actors, despite efforts by the command to broker peace. A peace meeting previously scheduled by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, with the concerned political parties could not materialize. The police emphasized that this measure is a proactive step to prevent any breach of peace, breakdown of law and order, and to safeguard lives and property.
