Police Raid Post Office Employee Accused of Handing Customer Data to 'Revenge Service' Group

Police have raided the home or belongings of a post office employee suspected of using an internal system to pass customer information to a so-called revenge service group.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's major crimes investigation unit searched the mobile phone and other items belonging to a man in his 40s identified as A, a team leader at a post office in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province. The search took place on the 18th of last month.

A is suspected of giving addresses and other personal information obtained through his work to two members of the revenge service organization. Police are treating the alleged conduct as a violation of South Korea's Personal Information Protection Act.

Investigators believe A extracted the data through PostNet, the post office's internal logistics network. They are examining the specific circumstances of how the information was obtained and transferred.
