Police release CCTV footage of Melbourne arson linked to bikies

Victoria Police have released CCTV footage of an arson attack on a Melbourne home, believed to be connected to a $20 million extortion attempt by outlaw motorcycle gang members. The incident, which took place in Yarraville last November, saw two cars destroyed and the front of the house significantly damaged by fire.

The footage shows two males arriving at the property in a grey Toyota RAV4 shortly after 2:20 am. They are seen pouring accelerant over two parked cars and the front door area before throwing Molotov cocktails and fleeing the scene. Police are seeking public assistance to identify the individuals involved. While no occupants were physically injured, the attack posed a severe risk, especially as a woman and a young child were inside the residence at the time.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ben Oakley of Taskforce Echo emphasized the extreme danger of arson, stating, "We have said time and time again that fire, arson, risks the lives of innocent people. The arson attack followed a month earlier by an extortion attempt. Three Bandidos members allegedly visited the home, demanding $20 million within the week or threatening to burn down the house. The resident was reportedly assaulted during this encounter. In connection with the incident, police arrested several men last year, and some have since been sentenced. Taskforce Echo, dedicated to combating OMCG crime, is continuing its investigation.
