Police rescue abducted eight-year-old in Gombe, arrest suspects

Authorities in Gombe State, Nigeria, have successfully rescued an eight-year-old boy who was abducted on June 28. The successful operation, which lasted two days and was driven by intelligence, also led to the apprehension of four individuals believed to be involved in the kidnapping. The Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, announced the achievement during a press briefing on Wednesday, detailing the command's recent successes against various criminal activities. The boy's father reported his disappearance to the Akko Divisional Police Headquarters after he failed to return home. Detectives immediately launched an investigation, leading operatives to the suspects' hideout where the child was found unharmed. The rescued boy has since been reunited with his family. The police commissioner confirmed that investigations are continuing, and the arrested suspects will face prosecution. In a separate operation, police dismantled an eight-member syndicate involved in armed robbery and internet fraud. This group allegedly used stolen mobile phones to access victims' bank accounts, withdrawing significant sums of money. The investigation into this syndicate also led to multiple arrests, including a 19-year-old student identified as the alleged ringleader. Police are pursuing other fleeing suspects in this case. Additionally, the command has intensified efforts against vehicles with improperly displayed or altered number plates, impounding 121 vehicles and prosecuting 114 motorists.
