Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest 10 suspects in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a nine-year-old boy, Ubaiyu Muhammad Sammani, who was kidnapped in Kano, and arrested 10 individuals allegedly involved in the abduction. The victim was reportedly unharmed.

The successful rescue of the victim and the arrest of the suspects demonstrate the command’s resolve to stamp out kidnapping and other violent crimes through proactive, intelligence-led policing.

The boy, a resident of Rimin Kebbe Quarters, was kidnapped on July 6. His father reported the incident to the police on July 9 after the abductors demanded a ransom of $30,000 for his release. Following the report, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an intensive investigation, utilizing intelligence gathering, technical support, and community-based information.

This operation led to the arrest of 10 suspects, comprising nine men and one woman. Police investigations suggest the suspects played various roles in the crime, including unlawful trespass, holding the victim captive, communicating ransom demands, and facilitating his movement. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives for their resolve to combat kidnapping and violent crimes through proactive, intelligence-led policing.

Authorities identified Abubakar Salihu, known as “Sankolo,” a 25-year-old resident of Rimin Kebbe Quarters, as the alleged mastermind. He is currently at large, and police are intensifying efforts to apprehend him. The victim was rescued on Friday morning at Karshen Kwata, Rimin Kebbe, behind the residence of the fleeing suspect. The boy has undergone medical examination and is confirmed to be unharmed. The command assures residents of its commitment to pursuing all individuals connected to the crime and protecting lives and property, appealing for continued public cooperation and information sharing.
