Police Search for Suspect Who Escaped in Handcuffs Outside Croatian Court

Police are actively searching for a 47-year-old man who escaped custody while in handcuffs outside the County Court in Velika Gorica. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon after a judge ordered the suspect be taken into pre-trial detention.

The suspect was facing charges related to non-compliance with a court decision and violation of a child's rights. According to the Zagreb Police Department (PUZ), the man was being escorted to a special transport vehicle when he broke free and fled on foot. He had been informed of his detention order following an interrogation.

Authorities stated that all police units have been alerted, and security measures are being implemented due to the nature of the suspect's alleged crimes. An internal investigation is underway to determine how the escape occurred and to assess the police's procedures during the incident. The suspect had previously served a prison sentence and was released on August 14th. The following day, he allegedly posted inappropriate content about his family life and past legal proceedings on Facebook, prompting the prosecution to seek his detention to prevent further offenses against his former partner.
