Police search for weapons taken from officers and soldier in Santiago robberies

The Dominican National Police are still searching for service weapons taken from police officers and a Dominican Army member in three incidents in Santiago over less than a week.

Several people have been detained while investigators work to locate the weapons, but none had been recovered by Sunday, a police source told Diario Libre by telephone.

“There are people detained. We are looking for the weapons, which have not been recovered,” the source said.

The police reported the three cases in press releases issued by the Office of Strategic Information and Communications of the Cibao Central Regional Directorate. One incident took place early last Monday in the Cerro Blanco sector, near La Noriega, where a patrol made up of a police officer and an Army member serving as an attached force was robbed of its weapons.
