Police Seek Arrest Warrant for Officer Accused of Falsifying Missing Person Case in Jeju

Jeju police have requested an arrest warrant for a police officer accused of fabricating records and falsely closing a missing person case. The officer, identified only as Officer A (in his 30s) from the Jeju Western Police Station, faces charges including dereliction of duty, forgery of electronic records, and obstruction of official duties.

The allegations stem from two separate incidents. Officer A is suspected of improperly closing the case of Jang Mi-ran (in her 30s) in May and handling another missing person report involving a man in his 60s similarly in July. These actions have led to scrutiny and an internal investigation by the Jeju Provincial Police Agency.

Following the renewed focus on the case, a large-scale search operation has been initiated to find Jang Mi-ran, who has been missing for three months. Separately, the 60-year-old man reported missing was found deceased on the coast of Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, on August 22. However, police currently believe there are no criminal elements connected to his death.

The application for an arrest warrant signifies the seriousness with which authorities are treating the alleged misconduct. The investigation aims to determine the full extent of the officer's actions and ensure accountability within the police department, while also continuing efforts to locate the still-missing Jang Mi-ran.
