Police seek witnesses and video in train track log case

Police in Ølgod, Denmark, are investigating a potentially dangerous incident where logs and branches were deliberately placed on train tracks. The act is being treated as a violation of criminal law, specifically endangering others.

The incident occurred between 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. A local train traveling from Varde to Skjern struck the debris, causing it to stop. Fortunately, the train did not derail, and the two passengers and crew on board were unharmed.

We base the assessment on the fact that several of the logs were placed in a way that we assess cannot be due to weather or other circumstances.

Authorities have received several tips from citizens, which are now part of the investigation. However, police are still appealing for more information. They are particularly interested in video surveillance and observations from the Østerbro, Storegade, Torvegade, Voldgade, and Søndervænget areas. Drivers with dashcams who were in the vicinity during the specified timeframe are asked to review their footage for any relevant activity, individuals, or vehicles.

Vice Police Inspector Søren Rønnov stated that the assessment of deliberate placement is based on how the logs were positioned, suggesting it was not due to natural causes. Police are also investigating reports of firecrackers being set off in Ølgod the same night, considering the possibility that the same individuals may be involved in both incidents. No one has been arrested, and the motive remains unclear.
