Police Seize Supercar Convoy Traveling Too Slowly on Motorway

A convoy of high-performance cars in Britain attracted police attention not for speeding, but for moving at only about 27 kph on a motorway.

Greater Manchester Police said it received multiple reports about the unusual convoy on the M66. The vehicles were reportedly weaving between lanes, revving their engines and screeching their tires while traveling at the low speed, disrupting traffic.

Officers followed the group after it continued onto the M62. Police stopped two Lamborghinis at an exit and used specialized measures to halt the remaining vehicles in the Rochdale area. In total, five Lamborghinis and one Mercedes-Benz G-Class were temporarily seized.

The incident illustrates the risks created by driving too slowly on a motorway. Large speed differences can force following drivers to brake or change lanes suddenly. The danger can increase when a group deliberately occupies several lanes while traveling slowly, significantly obstructing traffic.

Drivers do not have to exceed the speed limit to face enforcement. Police can also take action when driving behavior obstructs traffic or threatens the safety of other road users.
