Police separate Pride caravan from counter-protesters in Zaječar

Police in Zaječar, Serbia, formed two cordons to separate participants of a Pride caravan from a group of young men shouting "Marš odavde" (Get out of here).

Activists, holding rainbow flags, gathered in front of the courthouse, with their main message being that "there is a place for everyone in Zaječar." Organizers had kept the time and location of the gathering secret for security reasons, but strong police presence met them at the square, reported N1.

The Pride caravan also took place in Kraljevo, where a smaller group of men chanted and threw stones at the participants. Videos shared by Glas Šumadije showed the incident. Previously, a Pride caravan in Pirot was canceled due to a tense situation where men gathered in opposition, and organizers deemed the safety of participants to be at risk. During reporting on that event, an N1 reporter was hit in the head with a tomato, and collaborators Sara Stanojković and Aleksandar Đokić were prevented from reporting freely.

The Pride caravan in Zaječar is part of a tour of Serbian cities and municipalities in the lead-up to this year's Belgrade Pride.
