Police shut Rivers hotel after man's suspicious death

Police have sealed off a hotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after a young man named Charles died under suspicious circumstances. The incident has sparked outrage among his family and friends, who stormed the hotel demanding answers.

Family members were informed of Charles' death around 5 a.m. on Thursday. They were initially told he fell from a balcony of a two-story building at the rear of the hotel. However, upon visiting the scene, they found no evidence to support this claim. Instead, they observed signs of a struggle and traces of blood, suggesting a potential fight.

Further complicating the narrative, the doctor who examined Charles stated that the wounds were inconsistent with a simple fall. The doctor noted a deep stab wound on his stomach and suspected a severe beating, evidenced by injuries on his body and neck.

Charles' elder brother, Obomate, has called for a thorough investigation, emphasizing that his brother's death was not accidental. The family's determination to obtain the hotel's CCTV footage remains strong, despite police intervention.

In response to the escalating situation, operatives from the Azikiwe Police Division intervened to calm tensions. The hotel has been temporarily shut down, with guests ordered to vacate. Police action is believed to be aimed at securing the scene, preventing evidence tampering, and maintaining order. However, the family continues to press for access to the CCTV footage before any further actions are taken regarding the body.
