Police uncover background of Zagreb kidnapping: Four intercepted victim near Arena, beat him, and forced him into trunk

Four men have been arrested by Zagreb police following a violent abduction near the Arena Zagreb shopping center. The suspects face charges including unlawful deprivation of liberty, grievous bodily harm, and attempted extortion, indicating the motive was likely related to settling debts.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when three unknown assailants ambushed a 43-year-old man near the Arena Centar. Witnesses described a brutal scene where the victim was beaten and dragged into the trunk of a car, while shocked bystanders were too afraid to intervene.

"They beat him while dragging him to the trunk. He was shouting 'help, help!' It all happened in front of shocked passersby; no one dared to react and get involved at that moment," a witness told 24sata.

A fourth suspect was waiting in the getaway car. However, a quick-thinking bystander managed to record the license plate number and immediately alerted the police. This rapid response led to the vehicle being intercepted just two kilometers away in Savski Gaj, with the four suspects, aged 19, 28, 29, and 43, apprehended within minutes.

The victim was rushed to the KBC Zagreb hospital with severe injuries. Police are currently working to determine which of the arrested individuals inflicted the most serious harm. The suspects will be handed over to a detention supervisor, and a criminal complaint will be filed with the competent state attorney's office in Zagreb.
