Police unveil special squad in Lagos to tackle insecurity

In response to escalating insecurity and criminal activities, the Lagos State Police Command has unveiled a specialized tactical outfit named the "Command Sweepers Squad." This new unit aims to restore public confidence and enhance safety in Ikorodu and its surrounding communities, areas that have seen a rise in criminal incidents, prompting public outcry.

The initiative, introduced under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai, brings together officers from diverse tactical formations, including the Rapid Response Squad and Police Mobile Force units. Personnel from other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force are also part of the squad. The unit has been strategically positioned in Ijede to ensure swift deployment and effective operations across the Ikorodu axis and adjacent areas.

To bolster its operational capabilities, the Command Sweepers Squad has been equipped with essential resources, including patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers. These assets were provided by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. The squad's mandate includes conducting intelligence-led operations, executing raids, performing stop-and-search duties, and carrying out confidence-building patrols. Its primary objective is to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts and flush out elements posing a threat to public safety.

The police command has assured residents that all operations will be conducted professionally and in strict adherence to the rule of law. They are urging the public to cooperate by providing timely and credible information to support the security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and order in the affected communities.
