Police warn A’Ibom motorists against traffic violations, pledge strict enforcement

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a stern warning to motorists, emphasizing the imperative of adhering to traffic laws and regulations. The command has pledged to maintain a rigorous and sustained enforcement exercise across all 31 local government areas within the state, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to violations.

Akwa Ibom State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public, particularly motorists, commercial drivers, motorcyclists and tricycle operators, that the Command is sustaining its statewide enforcement of traffic laws and regulations across Akwa Ibom State.

According to a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, in Uyo, motorists are strongly advised to comply strictly with existing traffic laws. The command stressed that ignorance of the law will not be accepted as a valid excuse for any infraction. The ongoing enforcement initiative is designed to restore order on the roads, minimize avoidable road accidents, safeguard lives and property, and ensure the smooth and orderly movement of people and vehicles throughout Akwa Ibom.

The ongoing enforcement exercise is aimed at restoring sanity on our roads, reducing avoidable road crashes, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the free and orderly movement of persons and vehicles throughout the State.

Particular attention will be directed towards specific offenses. These include driving against traffic (one-way driving), operating vehicles without valid particulars or driver's licenses, and the use of covered, concealed, defaced, or unauthorized number plates. The use of unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles also falls under the scope of this intensified enforcement.

Accordingly, all road users are strongly advised to strictly comply with existing traffic laws and regulations. The Command will pay particular attention to offences including: Driving against traffic (one-way driving). Driving without valid vehicle particulars or driver’s licence. Covered, concealed, defaced, or unauthorised number plates, and others.

John stated that Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, traffic officers, and other operational units have been instructed to intensify enforcement within their respective jurisdictions. The exercise is expected to be firm and comprehensive, with officers directed to conduct themselves professionally, courteously, and respectfully while engaging with the public. Anyone apprehended for violating traffic laws will face legal consequences.

Anyone apprehended for violating traffic laws will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Ignorance of the law will not be accepted as an excuse. Motorists and motorcycle/tricycle operators are therefore advised to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and that all required documents and particulars are valid before using public roads.
