Politician's partner gets suspended sentence for drug possession with intent to sell

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 days of suspended prison and 40 hours of community service for possessing drugs with the intent to sell them. Søren Emil Hoppe Steenberg admitted to having 121 grams of hashish, 46 grams of skunk, and 15 bags of cannabis gummies. The case led to the expulsion of his partner, lawmaker Cecilie Liv Hansen, from the Liberal Alliance party just days after the general election. The party cited alleged dishonesty as the reason for her expulsion. Hansen, who also serves on the Kolding City Council and the Regional Council of Southern Denmark, has chosen to continue her political career as an independent.
