Poodle miraculously rescued 29 days after earthquake, survived near owner's deceased mother

In Venezuela, a poodle named Bailey has been miraculously rescued after surviving for 29 days trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building following a powerful earthquake. The dog was discovered by rescue workers during a search operation in the port city of Catia La Mar.

Bailey was found huddled near the body of the 11-year-old girl's mother, its own body covered in dust. The girl, Victoria Rengel, had survived the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes that struck last month, but her mother and grandmother perished. Victoria told local media that she believes Bailey was trying to protect her mother.

Video footage shows Bailey drinking water offered by firefighters shortly after its rescue. The dog was then taken to a veterinary clinic, where it received an injection. Despite not having consumed food or water for nearly a month, Bailey is reportedly recovering well. A veterinarian described the survival as a "miracle."

It's truly a miracle. Everything that happened to this child is a miracle. He will recover soon, although he has a slight ulcer in his eye.

Victoria has since been reunited with Bailey, and they are staying together at a rescue center. "I will forever remember how much Bailey loved our mother," she said. The earthquakes have claimed over 5,500 lives and injured more than 17,000 people in Venezuela, with search efforts for the missing ongoing.
