Pope Francis Hopes for Soon Visit to Mexico, Sees Peru Trip as Possible

Pope Francis conveyed his eagerness to visit Mexico and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, expressing a hope that the trip will occur in the near future. Responding to journalists' questions about potential international visits after his weekly rest at Castel Gandolfo, the pontiff stated, "We'll see, I hope not too much time passes" regarding an apostolic visit to Mexico, possibly in 2027.

Additionally, Pope Francis commented on the possibility of traveling to Peru. He noted that such a trip is "possible," highlighting his strong personal ties to the country where he spent a significant part of his pastoral life as an Augustinian missionary and later as the bishop of Chiclayo. He obtained Peruvian nationality in 2015.

The Pope's international travel schedule is becoming increasingly active. Following his pastoral visit to Spain from June 6-12, his next international journey will be to France from September 25-28. This French visit is set to include stops in Paris, the UNESCO headquarters, and the sanctuary of Lourdes.

During the first year of his pontificate, Pope Francis, who was born in Chicago, has already undertaken numerous international trips. These have included visits to Turkey and Lebanon, four African countries (Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea), and the Principality of Monaco. His expressed interest in visiting Mexico and Peru signals further potential engagements in Latin America.
