Pope Leo XIV to meet Milei and social movements during Argentina visit

Pope Leo XIV’s first visit to Argentina is shaping up as a demanding four-day itinerary, combining major public Masses with meetings across the country’s political, religious and social landscape.

The pope is scheduled to arrive in Buenos Aires on the night of Sunday, Nov. 8, and spend the following day in the capital. On Tuesday, Nov. 10, he is expected to travel 750 kilometers north to Córdoba. His final day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, is planned for Luján, 70 kilometers west of Buenos Aires.

The preliminary program includes a meeting with President Javier Milei, a tribute to independence hero José de San Martín, and an encounter with civil authorities and diplomats at the Palacio Libertad. Leo XIV is also expected to visit Cottolengo Don Orione, a Catholic institution for people with disabilities in Claypole, before celebrating a large Mass in Palermo.

The pope’s agenda would also bring him together with representatives of unions, social movements and business organizations at the Catholic University of Argentina. Other planned events include an interfaith meeting, a gathering with Argentina’s bishops, a Mass at the Argentine Aircraft Factory facility in Córdoba, and meetings with priests and religious figures. A youth vigil is expected in Buenos Aires on the night of Nov. 10.

Vatican officials and Argentine authorities are reviewing security and logistics. The Conference of Bishops said the Vatican would publish the complete schedule in the coming weeks. The visit would be the first papal trip to Argentina in almost four decades. John Paul II last visited from April 6 to 12, 1987.
