‘Popstars’ two weeks after its premiere: five standout contestants on the reality show

Three thousand singers entered the search for Argentina’s next girl band. Two weeks after “Popstars” returned to Telefe, also streaming on Disney+, only 60 contestants remain in the competition.

The selected performers have now moved into intensive workshops, where the jury and coaches will train them individually and help refine their talents. While some contestants have yet to appear on screen, others are already making a strong impression.

Mia Pineiro, contestant number 2492, stunned viewers with her performance of The Cure’s “Lovesong.” She comes from an artistic family and was recently identified as the granddaughter of Fernando Suárez Paz, Astor Piazzolla’s violinist. She also enjoys artistic photography.

Gala “Kpuccina” Vartolo, contestant 0187, is a singer, performer and DJ. Known for her lilac hair, she has become one of Ángela Torres’ favorites. Torres visited her home in Buenos Aires’ Núñez neighborhood to tell her that she had advanced to the next stage, reinforcing her standing as a candidate.

Constanza Colonhoun, 22, is Argentine but has lived in New Zealand with her parents since childhood, where she studies singing and dance. She traveled to Buenos Aires specifically to audition after her mother saw the announcement on Facebook. Ify Bianca Chidume, from a Nigerian family, describes herself as “Afro-Argentine.” Her deep, velvety voice has surprised the jury, and during a visit from Nicki Nicole to her home in San Justo, she also showed the judge her paintings. Hannah Moheda, a 25-year-old street artist from Temperley, stands out for her powerful voice and outfits, which her father makes by hand.

Two other contestants received special mentions. Avril Lerman surprised the jury by performing a lyrical song at her audition. In 2022, the Santa Fe native reached the maximum score on “Canta conmigo ahora” and later sang “Ave Maria” at Cande Tinelli and Coti Sorokin’s wedding.
