Popular Garywangsan Cable Car to Reopen August 1

The Garywangsan Cable Car, a popular summer destination, is set to reopen on August 1 after a four-month hiatus. The closure, which began in April, was necessary for terrain and watercourse restoration work on the slope near the intermediate station.

While the cable car will resume operations, the main ticket office is undergoing remodeling. During August, tickets will be sold and passengers will wait on the second floor at the '1561 Cafe'. Jeongseon County plans to hold a welcome event on September 12 to commemorate the cable car's full operational resumption after the remodeling is complete.

The Garywangsan Cable Car, originally used for alpine events during the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, spans 3.51 kilometers with an altitude difference of approximately 1,000 meters. It takes about 20 minutes one way from Sukam Station to Garywangsan Station, operating with 60 eight-person cabins.

At the summit, visitors can explore a 2,400-square-meter ecological trail, an Olympic exhibition showcasing medals and trophies of Jeongseon-born athlete Lee Sang-ho, and a cafe featuring movie posters and LPs collected by singer Jeon Young-rok. The summit maintains an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius even in midsummer, making it an attractive escape from the heat. Visitors can also enjoy 360-degree panoramic views using drone and virtual reality technology.
