Population tops 30,000 as Beitun’s Buzih becomes Taichung’s largest neighborhood

Buzih has crossed the 30,000-resident mark and become Taichung’s largest neighborhood. The Beitun District community grew from 8,511 people to 30,053 over the past decade as roads, schools and housing developments reshaped the area.

Its appeal rests on more than housing prices. Buzih lies near the Dakeng Scenic Area and offers extensive green space, including Buzih Park, Bo’ai Park and Zhongtai Park. Shopping and daily services are available around Dongshan Road and the Jungong commercial area, while major roads connect the district with the rest of Taichung.

Buzih Junior High School opened this year to serve the growing number of school-age children. Built on a 3.15-hectare site along Junfu 9th Road and Jianhe Road Section 2, the school had a government budget of NT$392 million. Its opening is intended to reduce pressure on nearby schools and the need for cross-district travel.

Other developments are also filling out the area’s services. The Taichung Municipal Comprehensive Geriatric Rehabilitation Hospital has opened, an international tennis center is planned for the district, and the proposed Purple Line offers a future rail connection. Developers and housing agents say the combination of public construction and demand from owner-occupiers has attracted first-time buyers and smaller households.

Presale prices have risen from NT$305,400 per ping five years ago to NT$380,000, an increase of 24.4%. Projects include Fuhua Yun Guang, which offers two- and three-bedroom homes and is nearly sold out, as well as Shengzhu Yue and Heyi Jingmei. Buyers should also note that some parts of the area lie near the Chelungpu Fault, making earthquake safety an important consideration.
