Port Harcourt to host 2026 NWFL Super Six tournament

Port Harcourt has been selected as the host city for the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six, marking the first time the season-ending championship will be held in Rivers State. The tournament is scheduled to run from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Six top clubs from the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership season will vie for the league title. The competition will feature a round-robin format, with each participating team playing five matches over nine days. The Super Six will ultimately determine Nigeria's representative for the WAFU-B qualifiers, aiming for a spot in the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League and the subsequent 2027 FIFA Women's Champions Cup.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, highlighted that Port Harcourt's selection underscores the Rivers State Government's ongoing commitment to women's football. This decision follows the state's successful hosting of the league's Annual General Assembly last year. The participating teams will include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.

In recent years, the NWFL Premiership has seen diverse champions, with Rivers Angels winning in 2021, Bayelsa Queens in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens in 2023, and Edo Queens in 2024. The league has urged all participating clubs to adhere strictly to competition regulations and directives as preparations for the championship commence. Teams are expected to arrive on June 5 for the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting, with matches commencing on June 6.
