Port Moresby Welcomes Sheraton, Boosting Global Hospitality and Connectivity

Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is stepping up its game as an international gateway with the rebranding of the Stanley Hotel and Suites to Sheraton Port Moresby. This significant development aims to align the city's hospitality standards with global benchmarks, facilitating increased business, tourism, and diplomatic engagement.

I am very pleased to be here on behalf of the city, all our residents, corporates, government, everyone on this occasion. Importantly, to congratulate the two corporate companies, RH Group Company and Marriott International. This is an initiative that was made on a corporate basis but is equally important for our capital city and our country.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop marked the soft launch, celebrating the agreement between Marriott International and the Stanley Hotel. He emphasized that while this is a corporate initiative, it holds substantial importance for the capital city and the nation. Port Moresby's role as the primary entry point by air and sea makes such upgrades vital for its function and the outcomes it delivers for residents and businesses.

Governor Parkop stressed the responsibility that comes with being the capital. "We are here to ensure the capital city functions and delivers outcomes for itself as a city, for the residents, both corporate and individuals," he stated. He further elaborated on the city's role in fostering growth, investment, and tourism, which are essential for the development of the entire nation.

As everybody knows, Port Moresby is the national capital of our country, Papua New Guinea. We also remain the international gateway to the rest of the country, both by air and by sea. And that is significant for us as the capital city.

The partnership with Marriott International, a globally recognized brand, is seen as a major step forward. The presence of Sheraton in Port Moresby is expected to enhance the city's appeal and capacity to host international visitors and events, thereby contributing to Papua New Guinea's overall economic and social progress.

But equally, we carry the burden of being responsible for our country, the well-being and the potential of our country, partnering with them. And it is our responsibility to create an environment that is conducive to businesses to grow, investment to take place, tourists to come.
