Potent Opioid Cyclorphin Detected in Denmark, Health Authority Warns

Denmark's Health Authority has issued a warning after the potent opioid Cyclorphin was detected in the country. The substance was identified through both a seizure and during the autopsy of a deceased individual. This follows an earlier warning issued when the synthetic opioid was found in Germany.

Cyclorphin, developed for recreational use, is significantly more powerful than morphine. The Health Authority emphasizes the extreme danger of the drug, stating that very small amounts can lead to acute poisoning. "We are concerned about these strong opioids because the risk of poisoning or overdose is high," said Tanja Popp, unit chief at the Health Authority. The warning has been disseminated to organizations working with drug users.

Symptoms of Cyclorphin intake include euphoria, decreased consciousness, nausea, vomiting, low blood pressure, slow pulse, and critically, inhibited breathing. "Inhibited breathing occurs quickly after intake, making the substances extremely dangerous to consume," the Health Authority stated. Naloxone is recommended as an immediate treatment and antidote to assist with breathing in cases of overdose.
