Potholes Complicate Drivers' Lives; Work to Be Reinforced with Two Contracts

Potholes are causing considerable frustration for drivers, and the current four work crews are struggling to keep up with the demand. To address this persistent issue, the Municipal Government announced it will significantly boost road maintenance efforts this week by initiating two new contracts. These contracts represent an investment exceeding 8 million Bolivian pesos (Bs) and are expected to expand the intervention coverage across all 15 municipal districts.

The potholes are a headache for drivers and the work of the brigades, distributed in four fronts of the city, is not enough.

Carlos Limpias, the municipal secretary of Public Works, explained that the companies have already been awarded the contracts and that procedures are being expedited to commence work as soon as possible. According to public contract information, one contract is for maintenance in the southern zone, valued at Bs 4,534,471, and another for the northern zone, worth Bs 3,734,850. These new efforts will complement an existing contract that addresses critical sectors during both day and night.

The city aims to have all its roads repaired by the end of the year. "We have four crews working, but we are going to jump to 20 to attend with three different contracts," Limpias stated. The work crews are actively moving through various zones, with recent activity reported on the fourth ring road between Cumavi and Tres Pasos al Frente avenues, and a section of the first ring road. Critical areas like the third ring road of Tres Pasos al Frente and the fourth ring road of San Martín avenue have already seen interventions.

Initially, work will focus on flexible pavement, but the new contracts will introduce repairs to rigid pavement. Maintenance on areas with tiles and paving bricks is being handled by municipal staff. Residents have voiced ongoing complaints, with many drivers experiencing damage to their vehicles from potholes. They are eagerly awaiting the reinforcement of maintenance tasks, hoping for a swift resolution to the problem that worsens with each rainfall.
