Power restored in Cuba after nationwide outage

Cuba's electricity supply has been reactivated after a nationwide blackout on Sunday evening, according to the state energy provider UNE. The power grid was reconnected on Monday morning, ending a complete outage that affected the entire Caribbean island.

This incident marks the sixth large-scale power failure in Cuba this year. The blackouts are partly due to the country's outdated power grid technology. Compounding the issue are U.S. sanctions, particularly the oil blockade imposed by President Donald Trump in January, which has disrupted fuel deliveries essential for power plants.

The United States continues to exert pressure on Cuba through new sanctions, with President Trump expressing a desire for a change in leadership. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also urged Cuba to implement political and economic reforms.

In response to these pressures, Cuba has recently opened several economic sectors to the private sector. The nation is planning to transform into a socialist market economy, drawing inspiration from models in China and Vietnam. However, Cuba is currently facing its most severe economic crisis since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
