Powerful Earthquake Strikes Colombia, Killing Over 100 and Injuring Hundreds

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 has shaken a wide swathe of Colombia, resulting in at least 111 fatalities and hundreds of injuries. The seismic event caused widespread destruction, with dozens of buildings collapsing and significant damage reported across several regions.

The city of Cali, located in the Valle del Cauca department, was particularly hard-hit. In a striking moment captured on video, Mayor Alejandro Éder was seen abruptly leaving a radio studio during a live interview as the tremors intensified. The footage shows the mayor and his team reacting with surprise and urgency as the studio equipment began to shake and fall.

Across the affected departments, including Risaralda and Valle del Cauca, the impact was severe. Reports indicate that parts of the University Hospital in Cali collapsed, trapping at least five intensive care unit patients under the debris. The governor of Valle del Cauca, Dilian Francisca Toro, confirmed the dire situation at the hospital.

Similar scenes of chaos and emergency response unfolded in other cities. In Bogotá, journalists from Blu Radio were broadcasting live when their studio began to shake violently. Despite the fear, the presenters urged listeners to remain calm while trying to ascertain the situation in other affected areas, highlighting the widespread disruption caused by the earthquake.
