Prabowo Warns Ministers: Work Hard or Make Way for Eager Replacements

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto humorously warned his ministers that they must perform well, as numerous individuals are vying for their positions within the government. "Those who are not capable can step aside; many want to replace you," Prabowo stated with a laugh during the launch of a national solar power plant program in Jembrana, Bali.

Prabowo described his "Merah Putih" cabinet as one with virtually no time off, noting that even national holidays are utilized for work. He cited the current day, a national holiday commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, as an example of his administration's commitment to working for the people.

The president officiated the groundbreaking for the 100 GWp solar power plant program, a key part of the National Priority Work Program for Energy and Water Independence. This initiative aims to strengthen national energy security and decrease dependence on fossil fuels.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetio Hadi confirmed the president's directive to expedite the 100 GWp solar power plant construction, targeting completion by 2029. The project is expected to achieve significant cost efficiencies in electricity generation, estimated at Rp73.9 trillion annually. The government plans to develop 30 GWp of solar power capacity by 2026, alongside phasing out 13 GW of diesel power plants. Indonesia possesses a solar energy potential of approximately 3,294 GWp, with a current installed capacity of only about 1.5 GWp as of April 2026. The program is projected to stimulate economic growth through investments in power generation, batteries, and grids, foster the domestic solar PV industry, and create green jobs.
